Call for Proposals
There are two calls. One is more academic research-oriented (open-access in “Youth”), while the other one aims to reach the broader public through blogs and/or artistic expressions (a series of blogs in NORRAG with a possibility to publish the essays as book chapters):

This issue explores activism in the most expansive sense, as we are looking for papers on activism beyond the youth climate strikes and in ranging contexts globally. Manuscripts are due 30 November 2024.
We invite papers that address a multiplicity of youth activisms from a range of global contexts, as they interrogate current educations and offer alternatives. For instance:

The interrogation of dominant ideologies in education by youth activism;

Climate activism as embedded in broader movements addressing human rights violations, war, capitalism, gender issues, or violence;

The interaction of youth activism and petro-power, and the increasing reliance of education on fossil capital as education is ushered into neoliberal systems;
-
Eco-fascist and climate denialist activism and its interaction in education;
-
Ranging forms of activism, including submissions written by and with youth in diverse contexts globally. We particularly welcome submissions by scholars and activists from the Global South, as well as those belonging to marginalized communities within the Global North.

We invite submissions of blogs or vlogs that can speak to a wider global audience of policymakers, academics, researchers, civil society organizations, activists, and other actors working in education. These can be created by academics, professionals, or youth climate activists (or both!) and take a wide variety of forms: research contributions, interviews with youth activists, creative submissions (poetry, artwork, zines, short climate fiction), or direct provocations to education professionals, leaders, or decision-makers. While we invite articles from all areas of the planet, we particularly want to hear from youth and youth researchers who are not often heard in academic spaces, including youth from the Global South, marginalized communities in the Global North, and from contexts where activism is culturally unacceptable, criminalized, underground, or perhaps unrecognized as activism. Manuscripts are accepted on a rolling basis between now and spring 2025. Some blogs in the series and dialogues created will be reprinted (with a possibility of a longer contribution) in an edited open-access volume in fall/winter 2026.
